Pre-Award
Sponsored Programs Office has developed a step-by-step process that promotes and fosters sponsored projects while maintaining strict compliance with federal, state, local, and University regulations and standards. This streamlined approach empowers researchers to move us forward as a top-tier research university and realize even greater efficiencies.
Proposal Planning
Information, resources, and tools to assist in the planning and writing proposals.
Proposal Submission
All proposals for external funding should be received by Sponsored Programs Office at least 5 business days prior to the agency submission deadline.
Proposal Institutional Data
Most proposals require common data regarding the University and SPO.
Award Setup
Before spending begins on an award, there are certain steps that must occur to set up awards for spending or to allow pre-award spending. The required steps include receipt of an award document from the sponsor, review, and approval of the award on behalf of the University and setting up the award in the University's financial system.
Award Management
During the life cycle of an award, award management requires that all relevant central departments and the related school/college ensure the administration of the sponsored program award is conducted in compliance with pertinent university, school, and sponsor policies and procedures. Sound fiscal and programmatic management of sponsored programs is critical.
No-Cost Extensions
Many sponsors will allow No-Cost Extensions for sponsored programs. A no-cost extension is a request to extend the project period end date without requesting extra funding. The PI should work with SPO to understand the No-Cost Extensions policies, procedures and requirements of the sponsor.
Letters of Intent and Support
Sponsors request a LOI to determine interest for estimating the potential review workload and planning the reviews for a particular funding announcement or program.
PI Change of Institution
Occasionally, a Principal Investigator may accept an appointment in another institution before the expiration of an award received while employed by the University.
Legal Agreement Negotiation
Contract/Legal agreements are made between the University and other entities not the individual.
